Applications submitted after the above deadline will not be accepted

The Application Fee is $175 plus 5% GST for the Large Busking Circles.

The Application Fee is $125 plus 5% GST for the Small Busking Pitches.
If paying by cheque or money order please note that FTA will only accept certified cheques or money orders payable to: Fringe Theatre Adventures.

The office will be closed on March 30, 31 & April 1, 2013.

Busker Application Agreement

Fringe Theatre Adventures (FTA) is the producer of the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival. The artistic programming of the outdoor theatre festival is unjuried and selected through a lottery draw.

The Applicant agrees to present a forty-five (45) minute show for a minimum of eighteen (18) performances, weather permitting, between August 16th and August 25th, 2013 inclusive. The artistic freedom of the Applicant is unrestrained and FTA has no control over the artistic content of each performance; however, the artistic content must abide by the laws of Alberta and Canada.

APPLICATION

  1. The Applicant shall submit an application fee in the amount of either $175 plus 5% GST ($183.75) for the large busking circles OR $125 plus 5% GST ($131.25) for the small busking pitches with the completed application agreement. Buskers under the age of 18 years must have a parent or guardian as a secondary contact on the Application Agreement form. Please note that the Outdoor Stage performers may NOT apply as a busker.
  2. In the event the Applicant is not drawn in the lottery OR is placed on the waiting list and then subsequently withdraws at anytime, a refund will be issued minus an administration fee of $35 plus 5% GST.
  3. If the Applicant is accepted into the festival through the lottery draw and subsequently withdraws the application, refunds will be issued within the following parameters;    
    1. Up to and including May 31st, 2013 the applicant will receive a full refund minus an administration fee of $35 plus 5% GST.
    2. Up to and including June 28th, 2013 minus a charge of $75 plus 5% GST.
    3. After June 28th, 2013 — the Applicant will receive no refund.

IF THE APPLICANT IS SUCCESSFUL IN THE LOTTERY DRAW AND WISHES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FESTIVAL THEN IT IS AGREED THAT:

The Applicant will perform for donations made by the patrons of the festival. The Applicant is obligated and accepts responsibility for remitting applicable taxes to the Receiver General of Canada. The Applicant must perform the show they submitted to the lottery draw.

BUSKER CIRCLE AND PITCH SUPPORT

  1. FTA will provide the Applicant busking circles (10 meters in diameter) or pitches (2 meters in diameter) to perform on.
  2. FTA will provide an Outdoor Performer Manager to ensure efficient operations of the busking circles and pitches.
  3. FTA will hold a lottery draw each morning to create a daily schedule for large busking circle shows based on a forty-five (45) minute show. Small Busking Pitch performers will receive a schedule in advance of the festival.
  4. The Applicant agrees to be present at the circle or pitch twenty (20) minutes prior to the start of each performance, to set up within seven and a half (7 ½) minutes before the performance, execute the performance within the allotted time and then strike the stage within seven and a half (7 ½) minutes.
  5. If accepted to participate in the Edmonton Fringe the Applicant must sign a Dangerous Waiver Form provided by FTA.
  6. Dangerous props are not permitted on busking circle or pitches. However, Applicants may use certain props that are perceived to be dangerous by the audience. The Applicant accepts full responsibility and legal liability for the use of dangerous props.
  7. If the Applicant uses fire, they may only handle the fire during the actual performance and must maintain a safe distance from the audience. FTA will determine the distance prior to the festival and clearly mark the stage for the Applicant. This policy is strictly enforced.
  8. FTA will provide all flammable liquids for the Applicant’s performance provided that the flammable liquids required are specified prior to the festival AND they meet the FTA policy and guidelines regarding the use of fire. FTA will ensure safe storage and manage all flammable liquids.
  9. FTA reserves the right to intervene and stop a performance at their discretion if they believe that there is an unsafe situation.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE APPLICANT

  1. The Applicant guarantees that all applicable contracts and contractual obligations that may be required by professional associations, unions and holders of copyrights for the performances have been duly adhered to and are in place as required. All payments required under such contracts will be made by, and are the sole responsibility of, the Applicant.
  2. The Applicant assumes sole responsibility for any and all contractual obligations related to the production under this application, and for ensuring that the artistic content of the production abides by the laws of Alberta and Canada. The Applicant holds FTA blameless and accepts full liability for any claims arising from these responsibilities.
