Why Become A FRINGE Volunteer?
Be a part of North America’s first and largest Fringe Theatre Festival. Get involved in your community and make some new friends at the same time. Get cool perks, only for volunteers — a coveted Volunteer T-shirt, a festival bag full of goodies, a program guide, an exclusive invite to our Wrap Party and opportunities to go to shows...on us! Most important, it’s fun!
What We Expect
As a volunteer, we depend on you to make our festival GREAT! You are the face of our festival!
We ask for a minimum of 4 shifts (of approximately 4 hours) over the 11 days of our Festival. Volunteer for 6 shifts and receive a collector’s pin, made exclusively for volunteers, in recognition of your time and efforts.
All volunteers are expected to attend a minimum of one Volunteer Orientation Session. This will ensure you get the most out of your volunteer experience and that any questions you may have get answered. Please note that some teams will require additional training.
Within a few weeks of receiving your application, a representative of Fringe Theatre Adventures will contact you with information regarding training and orientation dates for your selected team.

How Can I Help?
- BEER TENTS — Shifts from 11 AM – 1 AM
- Pour beer, sell beverages, and keep our beer tents sparkly clean! (ProServe/ ASIP training is required for all Beer Tent Volunteers as of January 1st, 2010.) If you have ProServe Training, please submit proof of certification with your application. If you do not have ProServe certification, training is available through FTA. YOU MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER.
- MULTIMEDIA — Shift times vary.
- Capture the Fringe Spirit in photographs! Team members must supply their own DSLR camera. Ownership of a flash and tripod would also be an asset. New applicants must supply a sample portfolio and be able to work independently. Space on this team is limited and applications will only be accepted until July 16th, 2010.
- INFORMATION SERVICES — Shifts from 10 AM – 11 PM
- Provide patrons with information regarding the site and program guide at one of our information tents. Or, be that helpful and knowledgeable volunteer who roams the site answering questions and organizing lines at our busy venues. YOU MUST BE 16 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER and comfortable handling money OR walking the Festival site.
- FRONT OF HOUSE — Shifts from 10 AM – 12:30 AM
- Provide services to patrons going to performances at Fringe theatre venues. Take tickets at shows and respond to inquiries. YOU MUST BE 14 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER.
- BOX OFFICE — Shifts from 10 AM – 12:30 AM
- Sell tickets using the Box Office software. You must be comfortable using computers and handling financial transactions. A 3-hour pre-Fringe training session is required to learn the specifics of the Box Office software. YOU MUST BE 16 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER and comfortable handling money.
- FIRST AID — Shifts from 10 AM – Midnight
- Provide First Aid services to patrons, staff and artists. Please submit proof of qualification with your application. YOU MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER.
- VOLUNTEER HEADQUARTERS (VHQ) / MOBILE REFRESHMENT TEAM (MRT) – Shifts from 9 AM - Midnight
- Check our Volunteers in and out of shifts. Distribute Perks. Create a home in VHQ or roam the Festival site with beverages for army of Volunteers. Basic computer skills may be required.
- GREEN TEAM — Shifts from 12 PM – 11 PM
- Keep the Fringe “Green!” Help with recycling, composting and other green initiatives on the festival site. If you are interested in going that extra mile for the environment, this team is for you.
- PERIMETER ACCESS — Shifts from 10 AM – 10 PM
- Help our patrons safely cross busy intersections and ensure that only permitted vehicles are allowed on the Festival site. YOU MUST BE 16 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER.
- SOUVENIRS — Shifts from 11 AM – 11 PM
- Sell fabulous Fringe souvenirs! Enthusiastic sellers wanted. YOU MUST BE 16 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER and comfortable handling money.
- KIDSFRINGE — Shifts from 10 AM – 6 PM
- Supervise arts and crafts, or be a face painter. Help organize fun activities for our Young Fringers. MUST BE 14 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER.
- FRIENDRAISERS — Shifts from 11 AM – 10 PM
- Be an Ambassador of the Fringe! Greet patrons at the Festival Site gates and collect donations. A positive attitude and a great smile are required.
- HOST TEAM
- Have a basement that isn’t being used? A spare room or two? Help keep our travelling artists’ costs down! Our Hosting Team sets up out-of-town artists with billet homes for the duration of the festival. Interested?
